24th-Jul-2007 09:16 am - PYGS recommendations
This post is tagged under 'requests' because there is no recommendation tag. Nemo, if you're out there anywhere... that, maybe, should be something for the community.

So, we haven't done a request post here in quite some time, and honestly, I'm not gonna be the one to revive it. I'm not that reliable. But I thought, I've got some time (I'm at work, after all), so why don't I point some people towards some stories they might not be aware of?

This post is, and shall remain, screened until a week after the new Harry Potter book comes out.

After that week, a new post will be made with any results behind a cut and many spoiler warnings added.

That said, this post is to solicit you, members of the PYGS nation to take your guess as to what will happen in the final Harry Potter book. Just say what you think might happen and have fun and when the time comes we'll see who was the closest.

The person who has the most predictions/guesses come up correct will be awarded an astounding 10,000 points to the house of their choosing. Yes folks, that's 10,000 points. Sadly, due to the war in the Wizarding World... the exchange rate on house points aren't that good. In fact the exchange rate for 10,000 house points is equal to One (1) "You done good." and at least Three (3) weeks of gloating. Alas, before the war that many points could buy you a Minister of Magic... hrm, hey, I wonder...

Anyway, if anyone wants to participate, please do and have fun. :)

4th-Mar-2007 11:11 pm - Polling the PYGS: Making Magic
So, I'm working on an idea for a fic, but it has Xander doing something pretty non-canonical... which leads me to an idea to ask you PYGSians a question or three... Here they be, see what you think.

Poll #940060 Making Magic

The Nature Of Magic In The BtVSverse:

Magic is something only a select few can do, short of demonic deals others can't do it.
0(0.0%)
Magic is naturally easier for some. The rest of the people can only do a little magic.
7(38.9%)
Magic is naturally easier for some, but with determination others can learn magic.
11(61.1%)
Magic is a skill learned, with hard work anyone can become adept at magic.
0(0.0%)

The Nature Of Magic And Xander:

Xander can't do magic, silly.
1(5.6%)
Xander has done a little magic, but it was probably just activating a latent spell with a keyword.
6(33.3%)
Xander doesn't need magic, stop the Marty Stuings!
0(0.0%)
Xander probably could do magic if he applied himself, but he'd need a good reason.
11(61.1%)
Xander can do anything, he rocks!
0(0.0%)

Magic, Xander And A Purpose: Xander has a reason (a darn good one, to him) to learn magic to help someone. He is willing to apply himself. He has time to learn and the library/resources, but has to keep it a secret.

Nope, Xander still can't do magic.
1(5.6%)
Xander might be able to do something, but he probably can't save the day.
1(5.6%)
If Xander applied himself and wanted it bad enough, of course he could do it.
5(27.8%)
With time, good resources and a darn good reason? I wouldn't bet against him.
7(38.9%)
Hey, is this for a fic you're going to write? You're the author, you decide, quit cheating!
4(22.2%)

Little houses on the hillside little houses made of

ticky?
10(62.5%)
tacky?
5(31.2%)
3rd-Feb-2007 01:39 pm - PYGS, the return of the crazy

Uh... Hello everyone. It's been a long time, huh? Since August 2006 for me, in fact, maybe before that. Sorry about that. Unexpected circumstances led to lack of 'Net access and general weirdness. But I'm back now, if no less weird. bastardsnow picked up the ball and ran with it as best he could, so mad props to him.

If anything, the semi-hiatus says something about how this 'comm is set up. We thought we had built something that was relatively self-sustaining but it turns out that no. And that's not good, is it? You should all be able to have fun regardless of whether any specific person is around. So we kind of decided (or I decided unilaterally and just said 'we' because I have delusions of grandeur) that there were going to be a few changes on the relaunch. The 'comm has to become more inclusive toward its members. Clearer, simpler and easier. Also more practical.

So here we are. Before the big relaunch, I'm giving you the power. This is a poll that mostly sums up the ideas I've had so far. If you have any suggestions for things we could do in this 'comm that aren't featured here, drop a line in the comments, okay? All input is welcome. This is your 'comm after all, remember.

The big, super, uber, mega PYGS poll of doom!Collapse )

This poll actually exceeds LJ poll element limits. Halfway through, LJ refused to allow me to add more questions. Crazy. Anyhoo, there it is. If there are things I've missed or answers that don't include the ones you want to give, just comment here to tell me your thoughts, okay? Thanks.
